Job Summary

The Bookbinder – Bindery Stitcher Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining commercial bookbinding stitchers, ensuring efficient production while maintaining the highest quality standards. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize machine performance. The ideal candidate will also provide leadership and guidance to assigned Technicians while working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a bindery stitcher or perfect binder to meet job specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance on assigned machines and ensure a clean and organized workspace.
  • Monitor and maintain product quality throughout the production process.
  • Direct and manage assigned Technicians, including training and job duty review.
  • Optimize production speeds and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and seek assistance for setup or running issues that impact productivity.
  • Provide feedback to management on machine performance and production challenges.
  • Participate in evaluations of Technicians as needed.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Handle confidential information responsibly in accordance with company policies.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner when interacting with customers, visitors, and employees.
Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience operating stitching and/or bindery machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and apply logic in troubleshooting production challenges.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to work weekends, overtime, or respond to manufacturing inquiries as needed.
  • Frequent sitting and use of hands for typing, handling, and grasping objects.
  • Occasional standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
